Who We Are

The Scottish Mines Restoration Trust was established in April 2013 to help facilitate the process of communities and other stakeholders involved in legacy open-cast coal sites across Scotland bring together viable restoration plans for them.

SeaAn independent non-profit making organisation, our role is to offer advice, expertise and where appropriate funding to facilitate the plans for restoration of derelict sites.

Restoring mines has the potential to not only revive scarred landscapes, but bolster the health and wealth of a community, improve the environment, and create vital jobs.

The Trust wishes to work with applicants who can show how with community involvement or backing they can take ownership of a challenge and deliver a positive outcome for all. This will require an innovative or creative approach to using the resources already in place for each site and it is in the marshalling of that approach that the Trust can offer help.
